From Junior to Senior School

Students can join the Debating Development Program from Year 5. They lay the foundation for future success by learning the first principles of constructing and presenting arguments. As they progress, they have the chance to participate in our annual Interhouse Debating Competition, which fosters House spirit and pride, while encouraging collaboration across the year groups.

Competitive Opportunities

For those seeking to test their skills in a more competitive arena, Wenona offers representation in prestigious external debating competitions for students in Years 6 to 12. Supported by experienced coaches and a dedicated coordinator, they can audition to represent the School in the:

  • Independent Schools' Debating Association Competition (ISDA)
  • Association of Heads of Independent Girls' Schools (IGSA) Archdale Debating Competition
  • Schools Debating Network (SDN) Competition
  • International Debating Championships (IDC).

To further develop their skills and deepen their friendships, girls in Years 8 to 12 are invited to attend our annual Debating Camp, which includes workshops, practice debates, and community-building activities.

Public Speaking Excellence

As a complement to our Debating program, Wenona offers numerous Public Speaking opportunities for Senior School students. These platforms serve to refine oratory skills, boost confidence, and engage young people with issues of global importance. Competitions include Rostrum Voice of Youth, Legacy Public Speaking, the Plain English-Speaking Award, IGSA Festival of Speech, and the Ethics Olympiad.
