Our Philosophy

Our focus is on providing the best possible sporting experience for all students to extend their learning and development into the sporting arena so that the students benefit from all that sport provides. We aim to inspire and encourage students to be better than they were at the start of the season, from one year to next, aspiring to attain that next level … whatever that level may be.

Building Team Spirit

Every student is encouraged to do their best, to give things a go, and team spirit commences from an early age. Sports Day for Kindergarten to Year 2, as well as Athletics, Cross Country and Swimming Carnivals for all students in Years 3 to 12, provide opportunities to participate and demonstrate team spirit.

Competitive Opportunities

From Year 4 onwards, Wenona students are provided with the opportunity to compete in interschool competitions organised by the Independent Primary Schools Heads of Australia, (IPSHA) or the Independent Girls Schools Association (IGSA).

Wenona fosters the progression of students selected into representative teams along the school pathway from IPSHA and IGSA, to NSW Combined Independent Schools Sports Council (NSWCIS) and National All Schools level as well as supporting those students pursuing their sporting passion outside of School.

Student Leadership

We have a driven cohort of sport student leaders who continually develop and implement initiatives that enhance the recognition of sport at Wenona, and the way students engage in a variety of roles to strengthen the value sport plays in supporting our students gain the life skills required to succeed after School.

Developing Character

Wenona students participate and compete with integrity, humility and energy that creates a culture of inclusion and reward for more than just winning, to build lifelong friendships, teamwork and a stronger sense of self so that they may graduate from Wenona as strong independent women capable of leading and influencing in their chosen fields.

Expert Coaching and Guidance

All of our Sport programs are led by qualified and experienced sport professionals and coaches, who are experts in their sports, while embracing a continuous learning mindset to continue developing the skills required to educate and guide our students within a modern context.

A Holistic Approach

Wenona recognises the importance of sport, physical activity and play in a holistic education. We provide opportunities for students seeking more general recreational activities without the desire for competition. Activities range from Skipping, Junior Jump Start, Gymnastics and Hot Shots Tennis in the Junior School, to Sailing, Fitness, Pilates, and Fencing in the Senior School. Whether the girls are competing in regional, state, or national competitions or simply having fun in a social team, they are encouraged to do their best while learning the life skills and multitude of benefits that playing sport provides.
