The Wenona Boarders enjoyed a fun first weekend back to School, with a closed weekend.
Closed weekends provide an opportunity for staff and girls to enjoy time together, strengthening relationships and enhancing their sense of community, which further helps to shape the warm and supporting ‘home away from home’ culture at Wenona. It provided a wonderful way to welcome our 13 new boarders.
Our boarders had a great time:
Sylvia, Year 8: I really enjoyed the closed weekend because I got to know the new girls a lot better, and I made really good friends with a lot of them from the activities we did together. Also, the Friday night activities were really fun.
Elise, Year 8: There were activities which required creativity and teamwork and it was a great opportunity to get to know each other in the boarding house.
Asha, Year 9: The closed weekend was a lot of fun. On Friday night we did some competitive games with our groups, then we watched a movie in the Undercroft. Then on Saturday each group had to make a course for dinner; we had a lot of food! On Sunday we made paper flowers on metal wreaths to hang in our room.
Lucy, Year 11: Our closed weekend was full of fun and I loved getting to know the new girls better. My favourite part of the weekend was the popcorn machine and movie night, as well as the activities we did in our teams, as it was a little competitive but everyone was having a good laugh.
Emily, Year 12 Boarding Captain: The closed weekend was a great way for the old boarders to get to know the new girls personally and vice versa. We bonded over group activities over the weekend and established strong friendships. On Friday night we ate delicious Chinese food, followed by friendly competition games and finished it off with an outdoor cinema where we watched, ‘The Devil Wears Prada’. We did not have many activities during the day on Saturday as most of us had sporting commitments, however, in our teams we were allocated a part of the three-course meal to prepare for dinner that night. To wrap up the weekend, we enjoyed a relaxed day on Sunday with brunch followed by a flower making activity to create decorations for our rooms. We had so much fun over the weekend and I loved the opportunity to get to know all of the new girls as well as catch up with all my boarding friends
