Celebrating our Year 12 Major Works.

Term 3 is always vibrant and busy at Wenona. Our Year 12 students are wrapping up their School journey and focusing on their final exams, while our newly elected Student Leaders are enthusiastically stepping up into their roles.

Adding to the excitement is a highlight of the Wenona calendar – our Academic Showcases. Continuing throughout August and September, they offer the Wenona community the chance to admire outstanding Senior School achievements across a variety of HSC subjects. From History to Science and English to Design and Technology, they reflect the high standards and creativity fostered at Wenona.

Already this term, we have been captivated by the Showcases for Technology and Applied Studies, Science Extension and Dance. We look forward to seeing parents at our remaining Showcases, all of which promise to be fascinating and insightful:

  • Aboriginal Studies Showcase – Tuesday 20 August, 5pm
  • Visual Arts Showcase – Wednesday 21 August, 4:30pm
  • Drama Showcase – Thursday 22 August, 6pm
  • Music Showcase – Wednesday 28 August, 6pm
  • English Extension 2 Showcase – Tuesday 3 September, 6pm
  • History Extension Showcase – Thursday 5 September, 6pm

In just its second year as a subject at Wenona, the Aboriginal Studies Showcase, complete with a Smoking Ceremony, promises to be eye-opening and entertaining. Head of Aboriginal Studies, Mr Nick Kovacs, expresses great enthusiasm as his students prepare for their big event.

“The Aboriginal Studies exhibition evening is an opportunity to celebrate the dedication of the students undertaking this subject, all of whom have conducted in-depth research and community consultation, producing works in a variety of mediums. The process has allowed the students to gain deeper insight into the complexities of conducting academic research with Indigenous peoples and strengthened their ability to form sophisticated judgements in their topic areas. Students can conduct research in fields that are intrinsically interesting to them or aligned with their post-School plans in fields such as law, education, health and more,” said Mr Kovacs.

These events are a wonderful way of celebrating and supporting our students' achievements and a testament to Wenona’s tradition for excellence in education.
