On Thursday 25 July, Wenona welcomed the 2024 to 2025 Student Leaders at our Leader’s Induction Service at St Thomas’ Church.
This annual tradition celebrates the students who have excelled in their leadership duties while also ushering in the excitement for those about to assume these important roles.
Through a rigorous selection process, students were chosen based on a multitude of factors, including their unwavering commitment to the School's Values of Courage, Strength, Grace, Wisdom, and Kindness.
Head Prefect, Zara, reflects on courage as she prepares to embark on her new position, “It is my absolute honour to have been elected as the new Head Prefect for the upcoming year. Yet more importantly, I am fortunate to be able to work alongside such a brilliant team of peers and teachers as we continue the legacy of the past leadership teams whilst creating our own mark. Recent events, including the nomination process, the Induction Service, and even the Paris Olympics, have exemplified to me what courage can be defined as and what it entails. Summarised by Brené Brown, ‘The courage to be vulnerable is not about winning or losing, it’s about the courage to show up when you can’t predict or control the outcome.’”
Deputy Head Prefect, Claudia, is relishing the responsibility of being a Student Leader, “The opportunity to be a 2024 to 2025 Deputy Head Prefect is an honour, and one that I am extremely grateful for. The process was both exciting and terrifying, and perhaps the most nerve-wracking part was not the speech in front of the school, but the interview with Dr Scott! During the next year, we hope to continue to foster Wenona’s inclusive culture and School spirit. Finally, thank you to all the outgoing leaders. They have done an incredible job inspiring us and have left us with enormous shoes that we hope to fill.”
Deputy Head Prefect, Lucy, is also full of excitement for the next year, “As Year 11 steps into the shoes left by our outgoing Year 12s, there is a collective sense of pride and reflection. We step up not with fear, but excitement, not uncertainty, but certainty, because I feel we have fully understood as a collective how far we’ve come and how far we can go.”
Deputy Head Prefect, Ishnika said, "It is a great privilege to be a member of the 2024 to 2025 leadership team. We have made a great start, which began with our Burn Bright leadership program on Monday, where we were able to get to know one another and express our initial ideas and aspirations. I am looking forward to helping shape a diverse, welcoming environment within our Wenona community that has already been so well established by our outgoing 2023 to 2024 leadership team, who have guided and supported us in our endeavours. At the Leaders' Induction Service yesterday morning, I loved witnessing the whole school come together to celebrate the leadership achievements of my peers and would definitely say it was an empowering moment for all of us!"
