On Friday 2 August, Wenona School's campus was a vibrant blend of patriotic spirit and charitable enthusiasm, as Green and Gold Day coincided with Jeans for Genes Day.
The Wenona campus has been buzzing with Olympic fever, a testament to our pride in the Australian athletes competing in Paris. On Friday, staff and students adorned their best denim attire accentuated with green and gold trims, coming together to celebrate in true Wenona style, while the School's corridors were festooned with Australian flags.
To honour our Olympians, students engaged in various Olympic-themed activities during recess and lunchtime. Highlighting this year's Olympic debut of Breaking (Break Dancing), students enthusiastically participated, performing impressive gymnastic moves such as front flips, handstands, and the iconic 'Worm’, to the cheers of their peers.
Adding to the festivities was an equestrian-themed obstacle course, where students demonstrated a blend of the speed of Usain Bolt and the grace of Simone Biles, striving to accumulate maximum points.
Amidst the excitement, the importance of Jeans for Genes fundraising was not overlooked. Wenona has long supported the Jeans for Genes campaign, which funds research to help find cures for children’s genetic diseases. Throughout the day, staff and students made generous donations, raising over $1,000 for the cause.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who organised the Green and Gold activities and the Jeans for Genes fundraising efforts. The day was a resounding success, filled with fun and community spirit. We look forward to continuing our support for this worthy cause and cheering on our Olympians as they strive for victory.
