Wenona’s Showcases, held over recent weeks, displayed an extraordinary range of major projects by our Year 12 students in the HSC creative and performing arts, humanities, science and technology subjects.

Commencing with the combined Textiles, and Design and Technology Showcase, students demonstrated their rigorous application of good design principles and practised techniques in a broad range of major projects.

Science Extension students showcased their authentic application of scientific research skills in the production of their Scientific Research Reports, which allowed them to develop evidence-based responses to a specific research question. Research topics were varied and impressive, and included the impact of fertilisers on algal blooms in waterways, the relationship between mass and diameter of quasars, and the variables in a pulsar binary system that affect pulse frequency.

The Aboriginal Studies Showcase commenced with a smoking ceremony led by Tim Bishop, who reaffirmed the value of each student’s insights into Indigenous history, culture, and contemporary issues, including Indigenous involvement in global conflicts, legislation surrounding Indigenous cultural and intellectual property, Aboriginal education, the housing crisis and the continued impacts of British imperialism on the lives of Aboriginal peoples.

Our Year 12 musicians and dancers shared their amazing technical abilities developed over years of dedicated practice, while our large Visual Arts cohort presented a mature range of artworks that told their own stories in intricate detail.

HSC Drama students captivated their audience with individual and collaborative works in a Showcase filled with humorous, serious and emotionally stirring pieces.

History Extension students shared their major projects with family and friends in a Showcase that spanned a wide range of historical periods and themes, while the English Extension 2 cohort displayed a breadth and depth of Wenona literary talent and enthralled us with their ability to engage with complex themes and present them in a compelling manner.

What a privilege for our community to see and hear the talents of our Year 12 students who have worked so hard for many months to produce major works of such calibre.
